Case study - Bart Ingredients

Which Phil:
              Phil 2500

About them:
The Bart Ingredient company started out in 1963 as Reg and Jo Bartlam a husband and wife team sold herbs and spice racks from there family home in Bristol. Now they are one of Britain’s largest herb and spice producers. They sell a range of herbs, spice, seasonings, blends, pastes, salt and pepper to a wide range of companies including Waitrose and Tesco. As well as wholesaling products they also have a website offering recipes for budding cooks to try.

The Problem

In 2019 Bart were supplying a garlic product to Waitrose, producing 10,000 jars per week and packing largely by hand. They needed a solution that was faster and created less waste. They had looked at other solutions but wanted something that could easily fit into their existing production line and work with the various packaging sizes which their extensive range of products fit into.

The solution also needed to be compact, easy to move around, easy to clean and reliable.

The Solution
To solve the problem, in 2019 we installed a Phil 2500 into their production facility, which has transformed their production capacity. The machine has been totally reliable and has transformed the way they package ingredients for their many customers.

We we're really pleased in 2020, when Bart got in touch again, this time requiring a second machine to help pack a new ingredient for a supermarket. We were only too happy to assist, and Michael headed down to Bristol to install the second unit, a Phil 2500, which now allows them to pack over 40 jars per minute; a 700% increase on how they operated before reaching out to Scayl.
